Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition: the birthday gift we all dreamed of
The Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition is the first special edition of the 992 generation, will have 75 units and has been the birthday gift for former driver Jacky Ickx
The eighth generation of the Porsche 911, one of the most legendary models in the automotive world, arrived last year as one of the most anticipated new releases. We already had the road test of the Porsche 911 and it completely won us over. Moreover, practically all of its generations are sought-after bases for modifications, such as the E-RWB, the world’s first classic Porsche electric.
A few months ago we spotted a prototype of the Porsche 911 Turbo S in its natural habitat, the Nürburgring. However, for now we only have the most basic variants at dealerships.
The Stuttgart brand has always been known for launching multiple special editions of its most iconic sports car, so all its fans were already waiting for the first ones based on the 992 generation. Today we bring you the first of them all, called Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition, a tribute to one of the most legendary drivers in the history of four-wheel motorsport.
The Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition is a full tribute to Jacky Ickx
The Belgian driver who has had the honour of receiving this tribute is none other than the great Jacky Ickx. If you don’t know him, here is a brief summary of his record during the 70s and 80s: he won the World Endurance Championship on a couple of occasions, triumphed at Le Mans six times, took a Rally Dakar aboard a Mercedes-Benz G-Class and achieved very good results in the Formula 1 Championship.
However, if he has had a special relationship with one brand, it has been with Porsche, so what better gift for his 75th birthday than launching a special edition of 75 units in his honour. To achieve the final result, the company relied on the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur department.
The driver was in charge of designing this limited edition
In addition, Porsche handed control of this project to Jacky Ickx himself, so the celebrated former Belgian driver had the chance to configure a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S entirely to his liking. After seeing the result, we have to say his taste is exquisite.
Ickx wanted to nod to the colour of the helmet with which he achieved so many glories, so they created the “X Blue” colour to paint the bodywork, with details on the beautiful double-dimension wheels: 20 inches on the front axle and 21 on the rear. Also, another detail that sets this very special edition apart is the Belgian flag on the B-pillar and the driver’s signature on it.
The interior has also been personalised, so you will find black upholstery with grey stitching. This stitching has been done by hand, so the resulting pattern is shaped like an X in honour of the driver’s surname. In addition, the legend “Belgian Legend Edition” has been printed on the door sills and the driver’s signature appears on both the central armrest and the key fob.
As we said before, the first special edition of the Porsche 911 992 will be limited to just 75 units and will only be sold in Belgium, so it will surely be a sought-after collector’s item.
