It seems the 997 generation of the flagship sports car from Porsche still had something to say before bowing out for good. However, this last gasp will be aimed solely at the Chinese market. It will take the form of a limited edition that joins those with the longest names in the history of Porsche.

The 911 Carrera S Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Edition (yes, all in one breath) is a tribute to the racing championship the Stuttgart marque holds on this continent, and which gives the edition its name. Its exterior makes this clear with the racing decorations, the mirrors and the rear “911” badge in a different colour, the 19-inch alloy wheels painted black and the aerodynamic kit, which includes a new front spoiler with dynamic air intakes, an additional lower lip on it and a fixed rear wing, all so that the handling comes a little closer to that of a race car.

There are also changes in the cabin, such as the limited-edition-specific plaque on the carbon fibre door sills with red illumination for the “Carrera S” logo, the adjustable Recaro sports seats with Alcantara upholstery in the centre or, as an option, “bucket”-type ones whose backrests also have carbon finishes, and the dials, door handles, seat belts and floor mats, all painted in Guards Red.

The technical side changes only in the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration, which drops to 4.3 seconds. The thirty units to be built of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Edition will only be delivered in Guards Red, Carrara White and Black and with the dual-clutch PDK transmission, something true racing enthusiasts may not appreciate much.
