Porsche Connect, a new information and entertainment system
Porsche Connect Infotainment System
More and more cars are including state-of-the-art systems focused on infotainment and connectivity in their equipment, above all for data exchange, information and interaction with the smartphone, as well as with other external devices. Porsche introduces a new information and entertainment system together with the latest generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The new Porsche Panamera incorporates these systems, which guarantee total connectivity between the user and their Porsche, keeping them informed at all times.
The Porsche Connect Portal and the Porsche Connect Store allow customers to configure and activate various individual services. In addition, they can make much more efficient use of their time in the car. The new range continues to include the Porsche Connect Support as a call centre in Europe, the United States and Asia. All of this is thanks to the Connect module in the car, which comprises a range of coordinated service offerings.
It includes services for remote control of the vehicle’s functions and checking certain data through the smartphone and the Apple Watch. Apple CarPlay uses several iPhone apps via the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The Connect Plus, the range’s top package, additionally offers a navigation system, an LTE phone module, a WiFi hotspot in the car, as well as numerous internet-related services.

At the core of the Connect system are more than 20 services offered in three packages, which can be used free of charge for a certain period of time. The app can also be used to lock the vehicle and guide us back to it, and in the case of E-Hybrid models you can remotely control the heating, obtain specific information about the hybrid system or program the charging timer.
The navigation package includes functions and applications such as the ability to use Google Earth and Google Street View, which allows optimising the route of the journey, searching for places and receiving real-time traffic information. It also includes flight information: arrival and departure times of aircraft, delays and even the terminal number and boarding gate. When planning a trip, the app can be used to search for destinations and transfer them to the vehicle.
The App Connect services are based on the Porsche Connect application, which can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes and Google Play Store. Except in the Cayenne, there is a compartment for placing the smartphone which optimises signal reception. Apple’s Siri application makes it easier to send and reply to text messages. The Connect app also offers music streaming functions.
Porsche Connect Infotainment System
The centrepiece of the Porsche Connect is the 12.3″ touchscreen of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM). It is integrated as standard in all Porsche models, although the functions vary depending on the type of equipment and its options. For the first time, it features a customisable home screen to which widgets can be added to define the most important functions, providing an easy and simple user journey. This forms the basis of the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, a novel concept of display and control.
Music can also be played through one of the two SD ports or via the jukebox (10 GB), and music can be imported from the latter via the SD and USB ports. The phone can also be connected via Bluetooth. The Connection Manager guides users through numerous specific options for connecting the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) to external sources.
