Porsche Macan S: now with a new turbocharged V6 engine

The Porsche Macan range is expanded with the interesting Macan S version, which receives a new 354 CV turbocharged petrol V6 that improves on the previous model in every respect.

Porsche continues to complete the range of its new Porsche Macan. Now it’s the turn of one of the most balanced variants, the Porsche Macan S. This model introduces an evolution of the 3-litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine, which includes a particulate filter to reduce polluting emissions.

With 354 CV of power and a maximum torque of 480 Nm, the increase over the previous-generation Macan S is 14 CV and 20 Nm. It may not seem like much, but it is enough to slightly improve performance. And above all, which was the main goal, to reduce consumption and emissions.

Now, the Porsche Macan S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds when fitted with the optional Sport Plus package, shaving a tenth of a second off its predecessor’s time. Top speed is 254 km/h, with an official combined consumption (figures converted to the NEDC cycle, which will be higher under WLTP) of 8.9 l/100 km.

Engine changes and specific chassis tuning

The 3-litre V6 engine receives many modifications. The most important is a new twin-scroll double-entry turbocharger, which improves responsiveness from low revs. In addition to the introduction of the particulate filter, the geometry of the combustion chambers has also been reworked, improving efficiency thanks to the central placement of the injectors. Compared with the previous engine, lpecific power rises from 113 to 118 CV per litre.

As for the chassis, the Macan S benefits from the advances introduced in the recent update of Porsche’s sports SUV. For this version, new anti-roll bars, specific damper settings and more powerful brakes, with larger-diameter and thicker front discs are fitted. Optionally, the Macan S can be equipped with ceramic brakes Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake, as well as the active damping control system Porsche Active Stability Management.

Standard equipment on this version of the Macan S includes LED headlights and the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus adaptive lighting system. The new infotainment system is also standard, with Porsche Communication Management, whose star feature is the new 10.9-inch touchscreen.

The price of the Porsche Macan S for the Spanish market is 75,421 euros, and deliveries to customers who place their orders now will begin in March 2019. This price is around 9,000 euros more than the Macan currently on sale with the 245 CV V6 engine, which, besides having less power and performance, also comes with less standard equipment.
