Now that we are past the midpoint of the year, the new models from the brands and the new versions that will arrive to strengthen their line-ups for next year are starting to appear. It is normal that we are already seeing the previews that will be presented, for example, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, but Mercedes has gone a step further and has shown us what to expect from the next generation of the Class A, which will debut to be on sale in 2018.

The new generation of this compact will bring solutions to the problems this model has carried since its conception. For example, everything related to interior space and ease of use. To address these issues, the new version will be built on a platform derived from the MFA, which will be called MFA2. Although it will keep front-wheel drive, the wheelbase will be increased, and this will allow for more interior space.

In practical terms, boot volume also stands out, as it will be larger and offer better transport solutions. Visually, a new light signature will also be visible at both the front and rear. As for the interior design, we will be able to see that the cabin will share many similarities with the Class C and Class E, with a predominance of luxury materials and a more carefully crafted cabin design.

The screen that controls the infotainment system will also be larger and more accessible. The circular button that controlled this system will be replaced by a touchscreen controller, something present in the brand’s high-end models, which will make it easier to use.

If we talk about technological equipment, the new Mercedes Class A will fit a good number of driver assistance systems to make the moment of getting behind the wheel more appealing, and it will be complemented by other safety systems, both active and passive, to make it even safer. We don’t have images of what they are preparing, but it sounds quite promising. We won’t be long in seeing the first images of this model, which will take a year to arrive.
