Production of the four-door Honda Civic Type R halted

While Mugen will continue to offer the two-door Civic Type R in Europe and the same version in Japan for one more year, Honda has decided to cancel production of the Type R saloon, with the last car due to roll off the line at the end of next August.
The four-door model will continue to be built at the Suzuka plant, having previously gone through the British Swindon plant. Honda gives no further information on why it is pulling this Civic variant from production, probably because sales are not what was expected in its home market. Perhaps the step before this was building the model at home, in an attempt to gain more profitability, rather than continuing to import it from England.
Honda fans lose a model that offered extra power over the hatchback version: with 225 CV, against 200 for the two-door. The rest of the mechanicals are similar to its smaller sibling. The economic figures rule, and Honda will only continue to import the hatchback into Japan, although it seems that this will be only for this year.
