In the increasingly broad electric vehicle market, we find new brands preparing new electric models to improve this type of mobility. In Canada, a new project is taking shape: an electric SUV that aims to carve out a place among the most popular models and will be ready within a certain time. Its name is Project Arrow, and it is being developed to offer an efficient vehicle that positions itself as an alternative to the models of Tesla.

The Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA), which represents 90% of the country’s car manufacturers, is working on this project. In fact, some 400 companies linked to the automotive industry have expressed interest in taking part in it.

The various suppliers are working to prepare everything needed to produce the materials that will shape this interesting electric model. According to Fraser Dunn, APMA’s technical director, the future Canadian model will sit between the Tesla Model Y and the Model X, so it will be quite appealing to those looking for a vehicle of this kind.

The technology that will be used to build this model will rely on welding prefabricated parts, which will allow many Canadian companies to take part in its development and manufacturing, without having to turn to companies outside Canada.

The batteries used in this model will also be made in Canada. They will be batteries built with cylindrical cells manufactured by VoltaXplore, a company formed by Martinrea International and the Montreal-based company NanoXplore Inc. It will also use technology developed by the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and its Automotive Centre of Excellence in Oshawa.

The engineers working on Project Arrow assure that this model will feature a level 3 autonomous driving system, so it will be equipped to increase safety and carry out complex manoeuvres on its own during every journey. The design will dispense with superfluous elements and aim for every feature to have a reason to exist within the design.

It will be ready to be shown in December 2022 and will be officially presented at CES 2023.
