Q8 Concept: the largest plug-in hybrid SUV from Audi

The Q8 prototype was presented at the Detroit Motor Show. Its hybrid propulsion system delivers 445 CV.

This large SUV was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show. The Q8 Concept has four seats and consumes 2.3 l/100 km.

Audi wants to include a large SUV in its model range, and this Q8 concept is its first move. “The Q8 concept is a Audi in its fullest expression, a demonstration of our brand’s strength in both technology and design, while also offering a glimpse of the large SUV we will produce in series,” says Dietmar Voggenreiter, member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG responsible for Sales and Marketing.

The Audi Q8 Concept features a plug-in hybrid propulsion system with an output of 445 CV and 700 Nm of torque. Its engine consumes 2.3 l/100 km. It can run in fully electric mode for 60 kilometres.

The Audi Q8 prototype measures 5.02 metres long, 2.04 metres wide and 1.70 metres high. Thanks to a wheelbase of three metres, the rear seats enjoy generous space. This prototype has only four seats, but everything suggests the production version will get close to seven.

The various vehicle functions are controlled via large touchscreens and complemented by a head-up display with augmented reality technology, which projects relevant information onto the front windscreen.

“With the next-generation instrument cluster and solutions for controlling various vehicle functions, we are giving customers the chance to experience connectivity in a completely new way,” says the head of sales and marketing at Audi.

The rear of this concept recalls that of the Porsche Mission-E with its LED light strip running across the full width of the vehicle. The production version of the Audi Q8 will go on sale in 2018.
