Range Rover Sentinel, the armoured version of the SUV

The Jaguar Land Rover division dedicated to special vehicles works to create new exclusive models for special events, but it has also developed the first armoured Land Rover to roll off this department’s assembly line. The Range Rover Sentinel, which is the name given to this special vehicle, is based on the Range Rover Autobiography.

To begin with, it holds a VR8 certification, which ensures strong resistance to bullet impacts and to the shockwave of a fairly powerful explosive. Its armour allows it to withstand the impact of high-velocity 7.65 mm bullets, as well as armour-piercing rounds, and offers side protection against explosions of up to 15 kg of TNT or DM51 grenades , both from above and from below.

The cabin of the Range Rover Sentinel is made up of six pieces of super-strong steel, while the glass consists of a multi-laminated layer of reinforced glass that provides excellent visibility, so much so that it looks almost like ordinary glass. Other safety systems include an automatically sealing fuel tank, an exhaust designed to prevent sabotage, and an auxiliary emergency battery. In addition, should a blowout or a puncture occur, the car can still be driven.

It has all the comforts and features of a Range Rover, but improved and enhanced. The suspension has been reinforced, the brakes and other specifications of the Range Rover have been upgraded. In addition, it has other optional upgrades to withstand external attacks and carry out deterrent measures to increase the safety of its occupants.

The engine powering this beast is a 3.0-litre supercharged petrol unit producing 335 CV, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. From the outside, however, and unless one knows it is an armoured car, nothing indicates that it is a special vehicle.

It will be presented at the Debuting at Defence and Security Equipment International event, held in London from 15 to 18 September, and it will carry a price of 400,000 euros.
