Renault and the PSA Group will use the new French nanobatteries starting in 2023
Electric mobility is about to take a considerable leap forward thanks to technology developed in France to create a new type of battery.

The world of electric cars is enjoying research that each year exceeds the investment applied to their development. And among all the components that make up their mechanics, the battery is the most important part and the one that benefits most from development. Now there is new research carried out by the French company Nawa Technologies, which proposes a new technology that has been named nanobatteries.
In reality, this technology consists of electrodes formed by carbon nanotubes that the company uses in the supercapacitors it has developed and that it has applied to current lithium-ion batteries. These carbon nanotubes, placed on a surface of one square centimeter, are coated with an active material that helps electricity travel faster and more efficiently.

This allows battery efficiency to increase and, in theory, a range that could be up to three times greater than the current one is achieved. And not only that, but also the charging time, one of the major problems facing electric mobility technology, which requires the car to remain connected to the grid for a considerable time.
With this technology charging time is reduced to about 5 minutes, which will be very practical. This happens because Nawa has managed to increase the energy density up to tenfold of the battery. For the moment, this technology has already proven useful, the company has an operational production plant, and it is believed it will be integrated into the market in 2023.
And the first move in this direction has already taken place, since an alliance has been initiated with Saft, a subsidiary of Total, which in turn has an agreement with the PSA Group and with Renault, which will be the first brands to enjoy this technology. The date set for its market debut is 2022, but it will not be fully completed one year later.
