Our colleagues at Vaya Ciudad brought us good news from Palencia: Renault has brought back the night shift in Megane production, as sales are going very well for the brand.

The French brand had planned to restart the night shift on 15 June, but has brought the start of the night shift forward to 8 June. Launching this night shift involves hiring 450 temporary workers who will start arriving at the factory on 1 June for training.

With this boost the plant plans to produce 200 more cars, on top of the 980 from the other two shifts (morning and afternoon). This night shift will run for at least, until 15 September, since according to Renault:

The market’s current volatility does not allow visibility beyond 15 September

Even so, it is good news that this night shift is running again at the Villamuriel plant, giving the sector some breathing room. In addition, Renault has taken steps to increase production due to the incentives that European countries are offering for vehicle purchases, since models such as the Megane have exceeded forecasts.
