Renault Morphoz: stretches its bodywork by almost half a metre
The French brand has unveiled one of the most futuristic prototypes seen to date. The Renault Morphoz is an electric car capable of stretching 40 cm beyond its original shape.
Tomorrow, 3 March, the Geneva Motor Show was due to open, as it does every year. But due to the Coronavirus, the Swiss government has banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people in its country. As a result, one of the most important events of the year in the automotive world has been cancelled, with the resulting consequences for the brands. Many of them will therefore hold scaled-down presentations or, failing that, show us their new models in online launches.
What do you mean it stretches?
The concept car of Renault features something we had never seen before. The Morphoz is capable of stretching up to 40 centimetres in order to increase its interior space for long journeys, and also to consequently improve battery capacity and total range.

Renault would offer a city car, with dimensions of 4.4 metres in length. A good figure for urban use. But it shows us a car 4.80 metres long for long trips and family use. Its design, from the front end to the rear, is worthy of a concept car. Very futuristic lines, with particularly distinctive cuts and a singularity found only in models of this kind. The feeling that the final production model will differ considerably from the images presented to us at first glance.
The battery is also affected
In addition to those 40 centimetres of length, the long version of the Renault Morphoz has another advantage. In its city size, the battery offers a total range of 400 kilometres, which for urban driving is a very high figure. But in its “travel” configuration, with almost half a metre extra, the Renault will fit a further 90 kWh battery. The aim is to turn the car into an electric model capable of making journeys without having to stop to recharge. Something few electric cars can claim today.

With this battery upgrade, the total range would be 700 kilometres with the battery at 100% capacity. That range can always be optimised depending on how gently you drive. The Renault Morphoz features a sophisticated artificial intelligence system capable of driving the car autonomously in various situations. This allows the car to optimise battery consumption. Renault promises Level 3 autonomous driving for its Concept Car.
