Rivian improves its outlook for 2026 after achieving a notable increase in production
The second quarter marks a positive turning point for Rivian, which manages to exceed its initial projections and enters the second half of the year with greater optimism, driven by its new product lineup.
Rivian closed the second quarter of 2026 with results significantly above expectations. The American company manufactured 12,613 electric vehicles at its Normal (Illinois) plant between April and June, and delivered 12,194 units. These figures represent clear growth compared with the first quarter, when it produced 10,236 vehicles and delivered 10,365.
This achievement has led the company to revise its annual forecast upward. Initially, Rivian expected to deliver between 9,000 and 11,000 vehicles in the second quarter and between 62,000 and 67,000 vehicles over the full year. Now, following these results, the company has raised its target to between 65,000 and 70,000 deliveries in 2026.

Part of the momentum recorded comes from the recent addition of the R2 model to the manufacturer’s range, a compact vehicle designed for higher production volumes, whose first deliveries began in mid-June. Although the company does not break down figures by model, it mentions “strong quarter-over-quarter growth in EDV and R1, along with the start of R2 deliveries“.
Results so far this year
In the first half of 2026, Rivian produced 22,849 vehicles and delivered 22,559. Therefore, to meet the new annual target, it must deliver between 43,000 and 48,000 units in the second half of the year, which represents a significant increase in the pace of sales.
The context of 2025 largely explains the importance of this rebound. Last year was difficult for Rivian, with deliveries of 42,247 vehicles -18 percent fewer than in 2024- and vehicle sales revenue falling 15 percent to $3.83 billion. It is true that, despite this, total revenue grew 8 percent to approximately $5.4 billion, mainly thanks to the agreement signed with Volkswagen for software development. Even so, the company recorded a net loss of $3.6 billion.

Rivian will publish its complete second-quarter financial results on July 30, accompanied by a live broadcast. Investors and the market will be watching for signals about profitability and production trends, especially now that the R2 is already part of the commercial offering.
