Rolls Royce Amethyst, the second exclusive Droptail in this limited series of four units

This is the second exclusive model in this series of four super-luxury cars created by Rolls Royce, which will offer four different versions of the model.

Rolls Royce Amethyst Droptail Modelo Unico (3)

A few days ago we had the chance to see the Rolls Royce La Rose Noire, the first of the cars that, under the Droptail name, will be manufactured with highly exclusive specifications for each of the four units that will leave the workshops of the Coachbuild division. The Rolls Royce Amethyst is the second of these cars, designed for a specific client who remains anonymous.

The inspiration for this unit comes from the wild Globe Amaranth flower, which blooms in the desert. According to the brand, this model captures the nuances the flower displays at different stages of its growth. This means the bodywork paint has been finished in a purple colour with a silver sheen, with decorative elements in another shade of purple with touches of red, blue and violet.

A unique design for a unique model

The first thing we see on this one-off car is the Pantheon grille, which features a brushed and polished finish. The headlights are slim and the daytime running lights use LED illumination. The bodywork presents a smooth, flowing profile in side view, where the 22-inch wheels stand out strongly. The lower section is in carbon fibre, which enhances the vehicle’s dynamic appearance.

This part of the car is covered with an Amethyst pigment lacquer, which, depending on how the light hits it, creates the effect of being the same colour as the bodywork. It is part of what the client requested, as he is a lover of subtlety and of these play-of-light effects that transform the car.

As the client is connected to the precious stones market and amethyst is one of the sources of inspiration for the car, the Spirit of Ecstasy has a base made from this mineral. But what draws the most attention is the rear, which features a large panel made of wood.

According to the brand itself, this is the largest wooden surface ever produced by Rolls Royce. It is also considered the most functional wooden surface in terms of aerodynamics ever fitted to a modern car. Rolls Royce specialists have created a wooden panel that not only has a highly decorative grain design but also performs flawlessly from an aerodynamic standpoint.

The removable hardtop is made of colour-changing electrochromic glass, tailored to the vehicle. Normally it is opaque and has a purple tint, matching the bodywork. When activated by an electric current, it becomes translucent and offers a tone that matches the Sand Dunes colour of the cabin.

Inside we will find decorative elements such as open-pore Calamander Light wood, alongside amethyst gems, leather-upholstered seats and the classic analogue clock, which in this case is called the Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon. A handcrafted watch that elevates the luxury and detail of the car so that it is truly unique.
