Ford is considering converting the Mustang into a hybrid car
The well-known Ford Mustang could start changing its powertrain and enter the world of electrification in the form of a hybrid vehicle, but with no date set.

We already have the Mustang Match-E on the market, which, although it carries the name of the legendary pony, is not exactly the same. The Ford Mustang remains a powerful muscle car that boasts great power and striking performance. But Ford wants to keep moving forward with the electrification of its lineup, although, in the case of the model we are discussing, there is still no date or specific form for doing so.
Still, rumours are already starting to surface and a fundamental change to the model’s powertrain is expected. At present it has a powerful V8 engine, which over the seven generations of the model’s commercial life has delivered moments of driving fun and an almost unique experience behind the wheel.
But although electrifying the model is inevitable if the Mustang is to stay on the market, the brand itself has announced that for now
a 100% electric version will not arrive. What may arrive, within an indeterminate period of time, is a hybrid version.
This means that the Mustang will take small steps towards full electrification. The first step will be to replace the V8 engine that powers the car with a more modest variant. But the Mustang has always been a car with considerable power, and the brand with the blue oval does not want to give that up.
So the electric motor has to make up for the thrust that the combustion engine currently delivers in the Mustang. What configuration will this hybrid model use? We do not know yet, so we will have to wait for this project to become reality soon.
There is no set date for it, since the new generation of the Ford Mustang has just been unveiled and will be in production for several years. Will it be in the next one? Or will they wait a while longer to squeeze the V8 engine as far as the deadlines allow? In the United States there is not as much hurry as in Europe to phase out combustion-engine cars, and this may be the excuse for keeping this landmark combustion engine in service.
