Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100, predicting the future of high luxury

As you know, BMW is celebrating its first centenary as a brand in 2016. A few months ago it presented the BMW Vision Next 100, a prototype that supposedly shows where the brand’s future is heading.

Rolls-Royce has more than 100 years of history, specifically 112, but since it belongs to BMW, the Group decided it was a good idea to do something similar to what was done with the BMW Vision Next 100 prototype. They did not go to great lengths with the name and, to keep it centralised, they have called it Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100.

Rolls-Royce is one of the most luxurious brands in the world, if not the most luxurious of all, so the bet for the future remains the same: building the most luxurious cars in the world. That is how the Vision Next 100 of luxury was born.

A brand like Rolls-Royce has to let the owner choose how they want their car to be. That is why this prototype offers a great deal of personalisation. In fact, the customer will even be able to choose the size of the car, thanks to an intelligent, variable construction made from lightweight materials. In addition, it could not lack high comfort inside, with all kinds of details finished to the millimetre, and the highest technology, with the exclusivity that this entails.

Even so, and however much it is a vision of the future, this brand is very traditional and usually likes to keep its origins. However, they have leaned more towards the years to come than the ones that have already passed, leaving a slight aesthetic nod to its tradition, such as the front grille. A clear example of this is that they set aside petrol engines with a twin-bank six-cylinder layout in favour of electric propulsion.

Inside the cabin, all the controls are centralised through an OLED screen and the new virtual personal assistant, called Eleanor. This assistant will resort to artificial intelligence to learn its owner’s tastes, that is, it will know what kind of music they like to listen to at each hour of the day, to cite just one example, although the level of learning will be very high and the music will remain just an anecdote.

Nor could autonomous driving be missing. We do not know when it will really arrive, but rest assured that within not too long we will be able to sit in the car, tell our virtual assistant our destination, and it will take us to the chosen place while we take a nap, read the newspaper or check our work agenda.

To achieve greater comfort when getting into the vehicle, the cabin doors have a very wide opening, as can be seen in the image. Thus, getting in and out of the vehicle will be practically like sitting down in our armchair at home. Light projections will create a red carpet effect on the floor every time we get in or out of our fabulous Rolls, treating us as if we were Hollywood stars.

A luggage space on the side, very close to the front wheels, catches the eye and, of course, the iconic umbrella compartment in the doors could not be missing.
