Saudi Arabia opens its first car manufacturing plant. Do you know which brand it belongs to?

The Saudi country has inaugurated its first assembly plant for an international manufacturer, which will assemble its most popular model to sell there

Lucid Saudi Arabia Planta Montaje

As unlikely as it may seem, Saudi Arabia had no car factory at all. Until now, when the first car assembly plant has opened. And the brand that has invested in this part of the world specializes in manufacturing electric cars. Lucid has reached an agreement with the Saudi government and has opened a second assembly plant for its models.

The facilities are known as Advanced Manufacturing Plant 2, or AMP-2 for short. The plant has already begun assembling Lucid vehicles, specifically the Lucid Air. However, it is not a manufacturing plant. The Air’s parts are manufactured at the plant located in Casa Grande, Arizona, United States, and are transported to the Saudi plant, where they are assembled.

For the time being, it will work this way, although it is expected that within a while it will become a full manufacturing plant. This will happen, according to the company, around the middle of the next decade. For now, production will be limited to around 5,000 units per year. With future investments, production capacity is expected to increase up to 150,000 units per year.

The vehicles coming off the plant in Saudi Arabia are intended for the local market. The Saudi government has committed to buying the first 50,000 units, with an expanded purchase up to 100,000 units, all within a period of 10 years.

But the cars of the brand coming off the production line will also be destined for export, although that will come much later. The plant’s location in Jeddah, on the shores of the Red Sea, allows not only the arrival of manufacturing supplies but also facilitates exports.

It is no surprise that Lucid has decided to install this plant in Saudi Arabia. The country’s government, through the Public Investment Fund, holds just over 60% of the company’s shares.
