Sbarro React´EV: the plug-in hybrid sports car from the Geneva Motor Show

The Sbarro React´EV is a plug-in hybrid sports car powered by a V6 engine built by the PSA Group and two electric motors that drive the front wheels. A design exercise that will also compete next month in the New Energies Monte Carlo Rally.

It has been a long time since we last wrote about Franco Sbarro and his very particular creations, made in collaboration with his students (Sbarro also set up a design school in Switzerland), such as the Sbarro Autobau, which at the time I described as “one of the ugliest cars on Earth“. But at this same Geneva Motor Show we will be able to see Sbarro’s latest creation, the React´EV.

For now, in image form, the React´EV is a plug-in hybrid that continues the tradition of the concept they brought to Geneva last year, the electric Sbarro Intencity, embracing alternative energies as the new banner of a craft brand. Whereas Sbarro previously offered only super sports cars with large V8 engines, this time we find a combustion engine and two electric motors.

The first petrol power unit is a V6 of Peugeot-Citroën origin, producing 210 hp and driving the rear wheels. The other two are electric motors equivalent to 137 hp each, which will drive the two front wheels. The three motors combined give a total output of almost 500 hp.

This Sbarro is clearly aimed at a very particular niche: those seeking a plug-in model to compete occasionally. To that end, as soon as it finishes being displayed in Geneva, it will compete in the 14th edition of the New Energies Monte Carlo Rally, where it can prove it is good for much more than “filling space” at a show.
