Seat plans to manufacture models in China

Erich Schmitt, president of Seat, announced at the Geneva Motor Show that they are currently studying the possibility of producing certain models in China, specifically the Ibiza and the León for the Asian giant’s market. Of course, they would also sell their sporty variants. The opportunity to produce in the Chinese market arises because Audi also manufactures there through the FAW-VW and Shanghai-VW alliances.

In this way Seat aims to reach the target of 800,000 units per year set for 2018. According to Schmitt, Martorell has great capacity and, with investment, could produce 600,000 units per year by that date.

On the other hand, the president of Seat also announced that they will very soon make a decision regarding their production plan in Latin America, with the plants in Mexico and Brazil currently under consideration.

Schmitt also highlighted that the company has a plan to launch two or three new models each year, reaching a total of 40 spread across 8 different segments.
