SEMA 2010: Toyota Camry NASCAR Edition

It cannot be said that there are many Toyota Camry tuned or modified cars, and if there are any, they cannot be counted in dozens, as one could count the number of Honda and other Toyota models that get transformed. But even the mild-mannered Camry has fallen into the web of SEMA, with a preparation that could be called extreme.

What we show here is simply a Camry with a NASCAR powertrain. It’s that simple and that overwhelming, Toyota has presented us with this Toyota Camry NASCAR Edition. With a 350-plus cubic inch V8 engine and a six-speed Tremec gearbox, it would be interesting to see the unwary who fall into the clutches of this Camry on a stretch of open road.

Although the exterior already makes it clear that we are looking at something big, the interior is calmer. It has Alcantara trim, air conditioning, power seats and almost everything any Camry has, in colours that match the bodywork. It even has an audio system, which will try to rise above the sound of the brutal V8.

As expected, this Camry will not be even close to a production line. Once SEMA is over, it may parade alongside real NASCAR cars at a North American category event, or perhaps at some other Toyota corporate event, but the Toyota Camry NASCAR Edition will never go beyond being a car built exclusively for SEMA.
