Shelby Mustang GT500KR, the new KITT

Quite a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since David Hasselhoff fought evil aboard that talking Pontiac Trans Am with a strip of red LEDs on its nose, but the success of Knight Rider (“El coche fantástico” for us) lives on, and a reboot was only a matter of time.
And so it has been, and it has come from the hand of what everything seems to revolve around these days: advertising deals, like the one Ford has signed to make its pony car the new indestructible weapon on wheels that will accompany the lead character in this new instalment. But since we’re not here to talk about the series (that’s what happens when you run a motoring blog, mate), let’s get to what interests us: judging that beauty of a Shelby Mustang GT500KR that has turned out to be.
As a car? Brilliant. Who doesn’t dream of one of these, with that muscular, energetic look combined with its exclusivity as a special edition… but really, is a Mustang the right choice to embody the spirit of the original Trans Am? I don’t think so. The good news is that this reboot will come in two styling versions: a milder one so KITT can drive around normally without drawing “too much” attention, and a far more brutal one (header photo) that will be used in the action scenes. To start with, there will be a pilot of just over two hours to gauge its reception, and then NBC will have to decide whether it’s worth continuing with production.
My vote is cast: KITT yes, but with a Mustang… no, thanks.
