Kodiaq Skoda Range / versions SUV
Skoda claims the Kodiaq will be a genuine off-roader. Is that really true?

The Skoda Kodiaq, which will be the brand’s first SUV, is taking its time. Even so, the Czech manufacturer drips out small pieces of information from time to time, along with new images that showcase its capabilities, as in this case.
The upcoming Czech SUV will enter a challenging segment, since it is not a mid-size SUV (like the Nissan Qashqai or Volkswagen Tiguan) but a larger size. The Skoda model will seek to carve out its place with a relatively affordable, quality product offering a seven-seat interior with adjustable length and reclining second-row seats.
The Czechs say this model “will be a true off-roader,” something we will verify when it reaches the market in early 2017. Skoda’s claim is bold and risky. What we can confirm is that it will be an adventure car, with off-road capabilities, though we find the term “off-roader” somewhat optimistic.

Mechanically, the Kodiaq will launch with five different engines, two diesel and three petrol, although further expansion of the range is not ruled out. Skoda has only told us about the most powerful variant, which will be the 2-litre TSI with 180 CV. The transmissions will be DSG or a six-speed manual, and drive will be front-wheel or all-wheel. It will feature several driving modes managed through Driving Mode Select, which adjusts the response of the steering, accelerator and, in the case of an automatic gearbox, the gearbox, along with the DCC adaptive chassis.
Nowadays a car seems to need connectivity and infotainment systems, and the Kodiak is no exception. Everything is controlled through a touchscreen on the centre console, and when we say everything we mean: WiFi connection, online entertainment service, navigation, breakdown assistance and emergency eCall button, SmartLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM, SmartGate, and more. It also features the “Phonebox,” a compartment that allows wireless charging of your smartphone.
As for driver assistance systems, highlights include: Area View cameras, trailer manoeuvring assistant, Front Assist, Parking Distance Control, as well as adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning and road sign recognition, among others.
