Skoda takes its first steps with the Octavia Green E Line in the Czech Republic

The Skoda Octavia Green E Line begins its journey into the world of electric vehicles with the first ten units now being tested in the Czech Republic.

Skoda has put its foot down and set out on the path of the electric car, beginning the testing phase of its Octavia Green E Line under the guidance of the most experienced members of the Volkswagen group. The group has taken charge of most of the technology in this Octavia and has chosen the Czech brand as a technology testing ground, technology that could in future be applied to the group’s other brands’ vehicles, as is very likely to happen.

As you can see, the Octavia Green E Line hides beneath the skin of an old acquaintance, the Octavia Combi. The electric motor supplied by Volkswagen produces a maximum output of 85 kW and a maximum torque of 270 Nm, which is available “all the time”. For an electric family car the claimed performance is more than adequate; it reaches 100 km/h in twelve seconds, with a top speed of 135 km/h.

An old topic that is always controversial with this type of vehicle: range. The Skoda Octavia Green E Line appears to offer a little more range than most, since a range of 150 kilometres on a full charge is claimed. Volkswagen has added some extras for this Skoda, as it can recover energy during braking or downhill driving, as well as an energy, range and consumption management system that works in real time.

There are already ten examples of this Skoda on the roads of the Czech Republic, undergoing testing, so development will almost certainly continue throughout the year. In this way, the Skoda has already scored its first point and its first electricity-powered vehicle in this debatable race to flood us with electric cars.
