Spy photos of the facelift of the Mercedes-Benz GLK

It has been almost four years since the compact SUV of the silver star went on sale, and with its range in the middle of a rejuvenation phase, Mercedes-Benz could not forget about this model. The first units have already been out testing, and spy photographers caught them covering their first kilometres around Germany.

Although they wear camouflage over the areas that will see the biggest changes compared with the current version of the GLK, it is not hard to tell what they will look like once they are unveiled to the public. For example, the front headlights will have a more pronounced downward slant at the bottom, as if the bumper were taking up more space, and will incorporate LED strips for daytime running lights, like the rest of the manufacturer’s latest models.

Likewise, the grille will grow slightly wider and taller, while the new front bumper will be characterised by a central air intake that sits a little higher than before. At the rear the changes will be smaller, with only rear light clusters that are slightly different and an updated bumper.

The interior will get a new steering wheel, and the Comand System of the on-board computer may feature an internet connection. The equipment list will add several of the driver-assistance systems offered on the updated C-Class, such as Distronic Plus and the fatigue detector.

Finally, the engine range will be modified in the more powerful options. A new two-litre four-cylinder unit will appear, producing 200 horsepower, and the V6 of the 350 BlueEFFICIENCY will produce 306. The 350 CDI of 231 CV will go on to produce 265, and next year the GLK 300 BlueTec will arrive.
