Spy photos of the interior of the new MINI 2013
For the first time we can see what the cabin of the next generation MINI Cooper, the F56, will look like. As with the exterior, the interior undergoes small but necessary changes. Possibly, and until we have more data, the biggest novelty will be the absence of the large speedometer mounted in the centre of the dashboard, which has been an icon for MINIs until now.
The rest of the interior is characterised by thicker, rounder air vent outlets and central buttons from which the electric windows, locks and interior lights are controlled.
These images also show a greater proportion for the new MINI, with a longer wheelbase and a wider body, improving cabin space while allowing better handling and greater comfort for its occupants, something that is difficult to achieve in the current generation.
The new MINI will share its platform with the upcoming front-wheel-drive models from its subsidiary BMW, with a significant reduction in weight and an increase in rigidity, despite being larger.
There will be a new generation of engines under the bonnet, starting with the new three-cylinder units from BMW, which feature CO2 emissions of 80 g/km. The turbocharged petrol, naturally aspirated and diesel variants, developed from the current 1.6-litre engines, will also be available.
We expect the new MINI to go on sale in mid-2013.
