Ssangyong Actyon... will it return under the KG Mobility badge?

The South Korean brand’s coupé-SUV could return to the market with an updated design that is more appealing to today’s drivers, under the KG Mobility banner.

In 2005, the Korean brand launched the Ssangyong Actyon, a coupé-SUV that was quite popular and marked the brand’s development over several years. Until it was discontinued and stopped being manufactured. But it seems that KG Mobility, the rebranded name that gave shape to this model, is considering launching a new generation of this vehicle with major improvements, bringing the name into the 2020s.

All of this stems from the registration of the Actyon name in the Noise and Automotive Emissions Certification System (KENCIS) of the South Korean Ministry of Environment. According to the registration, this vehicle will feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged combustion engine with an output of up to 170 CV.

This model broke the SUV mould, as it combined SUV bodywork with coupé characteristics. And this model is expected to retain the features that made the version we know such an appealing vehicle. This engine would be the same one that powers the Torres, so they have half the work done and ready for the launch of the new model.

The existence of a coupé-SUV in KG Mobility’s future line-up was no secret, since images of a vehicle with these characteristics have been made public since last year. What was not known is that it would receive this name, already well known and with a history of success under the Ssangyong badge.

For the time being, it is all speculation, although the registration of the Actyon name anticipates the brand’s intentions to bring the model back. There will be significant changes, because much has changed since the original model was launched.

The car will have a gentler roofline and is expected to retain design details seen on KG Mobility’s more current models, which were updated when they left the Ssangyong brand. We know the rebranding has not yet been fully completed and there are markets where the previous brand is still in use, but with the arrival of the new models, these will already be registered under the new name.
