SsangYong plans a rival to the Juke for 2014

SsangYong has its first segment B crossover well advanced. So much so that, according to the British magazine Autocar, it will arrive on the European market in 2014. Internal sources have confirmed that the model, almost essential given the current market trend, is known by the name X100. The publication notes that its presentation is expected at the Geneva Motor Show next year.
The South Korean brand has worked on this crossover with the help of Mahindra, which has owned 70% of the shares in the former since 2011. The same sources have told Autocar that the design of the X100 will draw heavily on the XIV-I, the prototype SsangYong showed in Frankfurt two years ago.
The engine range will consist of a 1.6 petrol and a diesel that is yet to be determined. It is also unknown whether the idea of an electric version proposed by the e-XIV at the 2012 Paris Motor Show will materialise. For now, SsangYong’s goal is to enter the segment B crossover market with a niche product but sell it at an affordable price.
The marketing director of the British subsidiary, Steve Gray, announced that after the X100 the manufacturer is considering launching an SUV even smaller. They want to take advantage of the market trend pointing towards lower segments and present themselves with an attractive and suitable model.
