Support from the authorities for the Ávila Plant

Good news for the Nissan plant in the Spanish town of Ávila. We had already announced that this project had institutional backing for the future sustainability of the industrial plant in our country. With today’s event, chaired by Miguel Sebastián and the Councillor for Economy of Castilla y León, Tomás Villanueva, the process has begun. Ryouji Kurosawa, Chief Executive Officer of Industrial Operations of Nissan in Spain, commented:

The agreements reached represent the best example of joint work between public administrations, social partners and Nissan, and have made it possible to secure an Industrial Plan that guarantees work for the plant over the coming years and an innovative Collective Agreement in Spain on flexibility

The fact that the agreement includes early retirements (reductions in headcount) but no direct dismissals is good news, as these early retirements guarantee continuity and commitment to the future of the company in our country.

Ávila is therefore in good health; it has overcome this difficult time and this crisis, emerging strengthened as one of the most important industrial plants of the Japanese company, which employed more than 6,000 workers at the beginning of 2009. Great news for the automotive sector and for the economy of Spain
