Suzuki Vitara 2019: new 1.0 engine and more equipment

The Suzuki Vitara is being updated for 2019, with significant news such as the arrival of an interesting 1.0 petrol engine replacing the current 1.6.

In the year of its 30th anniversary, Suzuki updates the Suzuki Vitara, whose current generation was presented in 2015. The 2019 version of the Vitara will be presented in September, and will go on sale shortly afterwards.

Among the main changes to the new 2019 Suzuki Vitara, one of the most important is found in the engine range. The current naturally aspirated 1.6 petrol gives way to a modern 1.0 Boosterjet, which joins the 140 CV 1.4. Here you can read our impressions from our road test of the current Suzuki Vitara 1.4 Turbo. With 110 CV, this small 1.0 engine thus becomes the entry-level step of the range, surpassing the naturally aspirated 1.6 in driving enjoyment and, presumably, also in consumption. For the time being, pending the entry into force of the new WLTP regulation, Suzuki does not provide performance data for the Vitara 1.0, nor how the 1.4 compares in consumption and emissions. Both engines can be combined with Suzuki’s Allgrip all-wheel drive.

The Suzuki Vitara 2019 keeps its characteristic design features, although the brand takes the opportunity to make the usual changes in these cases: the grille, bumpers and light units are modified, as are the alloy wheels, and two new body colours are introduced. Inside, a new instrument cluster design, which now adds a central colour LCD screen. A new, softer and padded feel material is also used for the upper part of the dashboard.

Taking advantage of the model change, Suzuki adds some technologies such as the lane departure warning and prevention system, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection in the mirror, and cross traffic alert system.
