Tesla Model 3 vs BMW i4, who will win the electric battle?

We are facing a unique duel because, for the first time, the BMW i4 M50 is going to take on one of the heavyweights of the segment: the Tesla Model 3 Performance. You’ll surely remember that a few months ago there was no rival for the Tesla, but times have changed a great deal and new models keep reaching the market that aim to put Elon Musk’s cars on the ropes. The BMW i4 is the first fully electric saloon from the Bavarian brand. The unit we are testing is, specifically, an BMW i4 M50. This model is as fast as the new BMW M3 and the BMW M4, but considerably more affordable. According to the technical data, the German saloon homologates more than 540 CV of power, while the Tesla Model 3 Performance has two electric motors and produces around 480 CV.

The German car has a battery pack of 81 kWh, while the Tesla Model 3’s is smaller, with a capacity of 77 kWh. The BMW starts at around 60,000 euros and the Tesla at around 58,000 euros. But what happens when these two beautiful cars face each other? Do the technical specifications matter?

Despite having fewer performance figures, the Tesla Model 3 Performance is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, while the BMW i4 M50 needs 4.2 seconds. Speed isn’t everything: almost every aspect of the German saloon is excellent, but it is not much better than the Tesla Model 3. It is worth noting that it does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, nor does it offer very high-quality materials, but this is not enough to win this battle.

The Tesla Model 3 Performance is cheaper, faster and has greater range. The Tesla Model 3 Performance can cover around 507 kilometres, while the BMW i4 M50 can only manage around 434 kilometres.
