Tesla Motors shows a production prototype of the Model S

Just as many people waited four long years for other cars to become a reality (I remember the Chevy Volt), there are others who will wait even longer for the Model S from Tesla, another of the industry’s promises that remain in limbo. What Tesla has done at the NAIAS is present a body in white of the S: just the bodywork, without the engine, accessories, or moving parts.

The new test drive of the Tesla S saloon sparked the curiosity of Akio Toyoda himself, who approached the stand of the Americans to take a closer look at the Tesla, now that he could clearly appreciate the anchor points, chassis reinforcements, and predefined welding points. The president of Toyota is undoubtedly attracted to seeing what one of his partners has been working on, now that the collaboration between Toyota and Tesla is getting closer all the time.

For now, the Tesla S has not changed course in the slightest, and if both the promises of the US government and those of Tesla are kept, we will be seeing the finished model ready for launch next year. For now, there are already some 3,000 reservations for the model, while Tesla secures the funding to begin equipping the site where the first car (the beta model) will be built, along with preparations for the start of crash tests, which should begin this same year if nothing unexpected happens to the manufacturer’s plans.
