The Alcolock system could also be introduced on motorcycles

The Alcolock system, which prevents the vehicle from being driven while under the influence of alcohol, could also be introduced on motorcycles, since from next year it can be used in cars, where the effectiveness of this method will be seen in preventing drunk drivers from driving.
The Asociación Mutua Motera has expressed its support for its introduction on two wheels, since it prevents the vehicle from starting if the rider, after blowing into a breathalyser connected to the vehicle’s ignition circuit, exceeds the maximum permitted level. The rider will therefore be unable to drive the vehicle under those conditions.
The president of the Mutua Motera, Juan Manuel Reyes, spoke about the system in these terms:
Applying zero tolerance to people who put the lives of others at risk and, above all, those of motorcyclists, a group that is far more vulnerable in traffic accidents.
However, the president disagrees with the waiting period before the Alcolock is introduced, since the system would only be installed after a third conviction for drink-driving, as proposed in the Congreso de los Diputados.
There is no need to wait for a third repeat offence before imposing it; a second offence would be enough.
We will keep a close eye on innovations.
