The Alfa Romeo Giulia could debut a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 300 CV

Rumours about the Alfa Romeo Giulia (name not confirmed) have been circulating for years among motoring enthusiasts, as it will be the car that awakens the brand and on which the Italian marque’s fortunes depend, as well as one of the ambitions of the FCA group. New details are beginning to emerge about this long-awaited Italian vehicle.
Apparently this premium saloon in the D-segment will make a first appearance on 24 June and will offer a new engine. A 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine with two turbochargers that will be the engine preceding the top-of-the-range 6-cylinder unit bearing the Maranello badge.
It will be equipped with a smaller turbine for response at low revs, while the larger turbine will come into operation at mid-range engine speeds and higher speeds. These two turbochargers will be supported by variable intake and exhaust valve timing, for a total output of 300 CV. In addition, the engine will meet Euro 6 emissions standards.
It will also be paired with an automatic dual-clutch gearbox, which will provide a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of six seconds. On the other hand, the top speed will be electronically limited to 245 km/h.
Going further, it is worth noting that this engine will also be available with a single turbocharger; it will be very similar to the one currently Alfa Romeo offers in its range, and the power output will sit at around 250 CV.
This model is based on the Giorgio rear-wheel-drive platform, and with it Alfa Romeo will be able to regain its premium positioning without complexes: a model that can go head to head with the BMW or the Mercedes-Benz “on equal terms”, including on price. And one with which the brand can recover its former glory.
