The all-new Honda Civic Type R 2020 debuts at the Tokyo Motor Show

Besides a refreshed Civic Type R, Honda kicks off the year at the Tokyo Motor Show showing its hybrid sports car, the NSX, in new war colours.

On merit alone, the Honda Civic Type R is one of the most coveted compact sports cars. And at last it receives the update the rest of the Honda Civic range has already had. Honda presents the new Civic Type R 2020 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

There are no changes under the bonnet, but none were needed, as demonstrated by the “TCR Car of the Year” title won in 2019 in competition, a season in which the Civic Type R has notched up 56 victories and 14 championships around the world. The engine remains the 2.0 Turbo petrol with a maximum output of 320 CV, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Essentially, the changes to the new Type R affect the styling, with slight modifications to achieve more effective aerodynamics and a new body colour called “Boost Blue”.

It will include, however, some revisions to the suspension and steering, aimed at striking a better balance between sporty driving behaviour and everyday use as a car. The braking system is also enhanced, and the response in the various driving modes (Comfort, Sport and +R) has been optimised, in addition to a new Active Sound Control system to modify the exhaust sound.

New exterior styling for the Honda NSX 2020

Alongside the Civic Type R 2020, Honda is exhibiting at the Tokyo Motor Show its hybrid sports car, the Honda NSX, which also receives updates for 2020.

In this case, the NSX is presented in an eye-catching exterior colour, “Indy Yellow Pearl II”, which fans of the legendary Japanese sports car will remember as one of the hallmarks of the original NSX. A colour that Honda also used on another sports car sold in Europe, the Honda S2000.
