The Audi 3.0 L TFSI engine wins Wards' Best Engine of the Year award in the USA

The 3.0 L TFSI V6 engine has won the Wards Best Engine of the Year award in the USA.

Of the 10 nominees we showed you a few days ago for the Best Engine of the Year award, only one could win. And this year’s winner is an engine from Audi, the 3.0 L TFSI V6 engine , which had already won last year.

This engine is currently powering the A6, A7, Q7, S4 and S5 models. With 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of peak torque, from 2,900 to 4,500 rpm, the power band is wide enough to be available at any speed.

One of the key components of this engine is the supercharger. It consists of two rotors that spin at around 23,000 rpm, separated by just fractions of a millimeter. Together they can move 2,200 lb of air per hour and force it into the combustion chamber at a pressure of 0.8 bar. The supercharger helps this Audi engine deliver power figures approaching those of a V8, while keeping fuel consumption in line with a six-cylinder engine.
