The BMW Serie 5, named Luxury Car 2024

The car that has had the honour of holding the title of Luxury Car 2024 has just been announced. The result was revealed during the celebration of the New York Auto Show, following deliberation by the panel of experts of the World Car Awards. They have decided that this car deserved this title, thanks to the innovations presented by this executive saloon.

The title was awarded after exhaustive road tests carried out by the jury. They made all the necessary notes to assess each of the vehicles vying for this title. Ahead of the 13 vehicles presented in the fight for victory, the German saloon has come out on top, and we already know that it is the one that enjoys the title.

The jury members have favourably assessed its sporty style without losing elegance; the power it offers, which allows it to meet the demands of the driver; a spacious and comfortable interior aimed at the premium segment; and a great acoustic comfort. The capabilities of the BMW Serie 5 for long journeys also helped it to win the title.

It is equipped with a large catalogue of ADAS, among which the motorway assistant and the lane change assistant with eye confirmation stand out, adding an extra layer of safety during the manoeuvre. The infotainment system is available with a BMW Curve Display multimedia screen, which is curved to make it easier to access.

In the i5 version, with electric traction, this system allows access to watching films via streaming and even enjoying games. That said, this is only possible when the vehicle is stationary and does not pose a risk while driving. For example, while waiting for the battery to charge.

As for the powertrain of the BMW i5, it features several motors and a battery that offers a range of up to 582 kilometres under the WLTP homologation cycle. This battery can be charged with alternating current using a charger of up to 22 kW, although if a 205 kW charger is used, it can recover up to 156 kilometres of range in 10 minutes when one of these is available.

The combustion engines are accompanied by a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which makes it an interesting vehicle that also scored positively in earning the Luxury Car 2024 award. This is the ninth title of this kind that BMW has achieved, and the second that crowns it as World Luxury Car, after the BMW Serie 7 won it in 2016.
