The BMW X6 Active Hybrid is cancelled

Although a couple of years ago we announced the arrival of the BMW X6 Active Hybrid -a hybrid SUV with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and two electric motors, capable of running on electric power alone at low speeds- as the eighth wonder of the world, we now have to say that BMW has cancelled the model, bringing it to an end after just two years.
It seems that manufacturing costs pushed the selling price to quite high levels, even higher than the X6 itself in the much-coveted M division, which, by the way, is a far more capable machine for keeping us thoroughly entertained on the road without worrying about consumption or emissions figures.
Besides having a considerable price disadvantage, it was hard to expect a vehicle of such size and weight to reach the consumption figures it claimed. And indeed, the X6 Active Hybrid did not improve on 13 l/100 km.
