The last Ford Crown Victoria rolls off the production line

I think this quintessentially American saloon is very well known for its appearances in film and television. As a police car or taxi, it was almost always part of the television set wherever cars were shown on screen.

But the Ford Crown Victoria still has other features that make it almost unique in the 21st century. It is the last example of the classic American saloon with rear-wheel drive and a respectable size, and one of the last vehicles still offering automatic gearboxes on the steering column and those one-piece front seats that look like armchairs, for carrying two passengers up front.

The final model of this car did not stay at home: the last example, in pristine white, was shipped to Saudi Arabia. The “farewell” was emotional for the group of workers who, for almost 30 years, had been turning out thousands of cars similar to this one.
