The Chrysler PT Cruiser will remain in production for one more year

Chrysler has announced that it will keep producing the veteran PT Cruiser, which a few weeks ago was rumoured to be leaving production. The model, with its retro style, has been on the market since 2000 and has maintained modest sales figures since it went on sale.
According to Chrysler representatives, the PT Cruiser is an enigmatic model within the brand and since it went on sale 1.3 million units have been sold in 60 countries. As a result, production of the PT Cruiser, which is built at the Toluca plant (Mexico), will continue until mid-2010.
Since its launch, the car has undergone very few changes (apart from a minor restyling in 2006). In 2009 only 8,591 units were sold, and the highest sales level was achieved in 2001 with 144,717 vehicles sold. The decision to keep it on sale makes sense, since it is a car that has long since paid for itself.
