The Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston turns 41! It was the last one to leave the factory!
41 years ago a special variant of the Citroën 2 CV was born, which soon joined the brand’s catalogue and was very special, because it closed the production of the model.

There are many car models we remember from our childhood. Some of those models that emerged in the 70s and 80s have even been many people’s first car, and they remember them fondly. But perhaps one of the most remembered and popular has been the Citroën 2 CV. This model began to be manufactured and distributed in 1948, and its production continued until 1990. Almost nothing.
In total, 5,114,969 units were built across all the variants that appeared over the years. In 1980, at the Paris Motor Show, a special version was launched, aimed at 8,000 lucky owners who could drive this model and enjoy a series of features that the rest of the versions did not have.

A recognizable exterior
The exterior of this version of the 2 CV is entirely recognizable, as it uses a two-tone scheme, in two colours, Delage Red and Black. This livery made it very popular and made it highly recognizable. The round headlights were covered by a red housing, and it had comforts that the commercial model did not have. Its success meant that the following year after its presentation it went into series production and became part of the brand’s catalogue.
The first cars of this production model kept all the features of the limited series, but some things changed. For example, the headlight housings became chrome-plated and the upholstery changed to a diamond-shaped pattern. To the original body design, another variant was added, with the colours Hélios Yellow and Black. Later came a grey version with the Night Grey and Cormorant Grey colours.
Production of this model was shared between France, Spain and Portugal. It was at the Mangualde factory that, at 4:30 p.m. on 27 July 1990, the last Citroën 2 CV rolled off the production line. It was a 2 CV 6 Charleston in Night Grey and Cormorant Grey colours, which brought to an end several decades in which drivers enjoyed their finest moments behind the wheel of a car that has become a legend.
