The CUPRA Born VZ electric sports car can now be ordered in Spain, and it will not be especially cheap

Announced at the beginning of the year, CUPRA is starting sales in Spain of the Born VZ, which positions itself as the most powerful version of this electric model

CUPRA’s arrival in the world of fully electric vehicles took place in 2021, with the Born as its flagship model. By the end of 2022, this vehicle had recorded sales of 45,300 units, which the brand itself considered a success, even though production of the Born, like that of the Volkswagen ID.3, had to be reduced due to the low sales it was achieving.

Sales of fully electric vehicles have not really taken off in Europe, and even less so in Spain, which is why CUPRA wants to shake up the market with something a little spicier. To do so, earlier this year it announced the Born VZ, a version featuring dedicated aesthetic details, improved equipment and greater power, which places it at the top of the Born range.

It is worth recalling that the CUPRA Born VZ stands out from the rest of the range thanks to two new body colours, Dark Forest and Midnight Black, with the former being exclusive to the Born VZ. It also comes as standard with 20-inch wheels, with a choice of two new designs fitted with wider high-performance tyres, while the finishing touch is the dark chrome finish on the logos.

Inside, the CUPRA Born VZ also comes as standard with CUPRA Bucket sports seats, which are exclusive to this version. They are upholstered in a fabric combining Seaqual Yarn, made from recycled plastics recovered from the seabed, and Dynamic fabric, made up of 73% recycled polyester. In addition, at the rear, carbon and glass fibre make way for a more sustainable material such as flax fibre, accounting for 49% of the composition.

Mechanically, as I mentioned, the CUPRA Born VZ sits one step above the Born e-Boost, because its permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor now produces 240 kW (326 CV) and a torque of 545 Nm. This electric system is paired with a new lithium-ion battery that slightly increases its capacity to 79 kWh, allowing it to achieve a maximum range of 599 kilometres. It can be charged using an 11 kW AC system or at a DC fast-charging point of up to 185 kW, going from 5% to 80% in 26 minutes.

The CUPRA Born VZ also features a number of specific modifications, such as a more powerful front brake and a steering system with sport settings, as well as new suspension geometry. New springs and dampers provide greater control, along with revised anti-roll bars.

The new CUPRA Born VZ is now available on the Spanish market at a starting price of 46,470 euros, and buyers can take advantage of the MOVES plan incentives to obtain a discount that can reach, in the best case, 10,000 euros.
