The CUPRA Formentor expands the family with two new petrol engines and a diesel one
CUPRA is moving ahead with the expansion of the CUPRA Formentor, a model that takes the opportunity to widen its engine range with three new engines.
The CUPRA Formentor has become a real success after the Spanish brand adopted a strategy that not only offers a sporty engine, but also a very generous line-up. However, the brand wanted to go further with the Formentor and expand its family with three new engines that establish it as the most complete CUPRA vehicle to date, thereby broadening its reach and opening up more options to attract new customers.
With this in mind, the Spanish brand is preparing to deliver a hard blow to its most direct rivals, offering an interesting set of engines with outputs between 150 and 390 CV. The Formentor not only debuts the long-awaited 2.0 TDI, but also two more petrol engines that aim to balance the CUPRA crossover even further.
Until now, the CUPRA Formentor was offered with the 1.5 TSI of 150 CV, the e-Hybrid with outputs of 204 and 245 CV, the VZ with the 2.0 TSI of 300 CV and the VZ5 with the 2.5 TFSI of 390 CV. However, CUPRA’s engineers have decided to fill three more gaps in its first own car and convince more customers that the Formentor is the right choice.

Starting with the most modest option of all, we find the 2.0 TDI, the well-known turbocharged four-cylinder diesel that, for this occasion, produces 150 CV. It can be paired either with a six-speed manual gearbox or with the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic, although the latter includes the 4Drive system. Their prices are 32,890 euros and 37,990 euros respectively.
The next step up is occupied by another very popular and well-known engine within the Group Volkswagen, the 2.0 TSI of 190 CV. This engine arrives in the Formentor exclusively with the DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive. With all this, the starting price of this version of the Spanish crossover is 37,990 euros.

Last but not least, CUPRA also includes another variant based on the 2.0 TSI, this time with 245 CV and a new exhaust outlet to differentiate it from the VZ and the other options. This one is only available with an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive, leaving a bill of 42,790 euros for any interested buyer. In addition, a new optional styling kit is also expected for the Formentor VZ, aiming to distance it aesthetically from its other siblings in the range.
