The CUPRA León is also getting an update in 2024

The brand CUPRA does not intend to fall behind when it comes to its presence as a performance vehicle brand, now fully separated from SEAT, which gave it birth. During the third quarter of the year, the Spanish brand is set to launch two updates to two of its models, which will get a new look, more equipment and new engine options. One of these models will be the CUPRA Formentor, which we have already discussed in this article. The other is the CUPRA León.

Now separated from the SEAT family, this model is updated to fully embrace the new design language of the high-performance brand. It is an update, but with the spirit of CUPRA. The main changes are visible at the front, especially in the headlights. These are Matrix LED units, which have a triangular design and offer a more dynamic look. The fog lights are also triangular and help give the model the look it is after.

These new headlights are part of the redesigned front end. It has a “shark nose” shape and is the new face of CUPRA’s design. The brand emblem is no longer on the grille, but now sits on the bonnet itself, giving it a more powerful and attractive look. Other styling elements include new 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels. In addition, new body colours have been added.

More technological interior

Inside the new 2024 CUPRA León we find a new 12.9-inch multimedia screen, which features a backlighting system that makes it more practical. In the cabin there are recycled and vegan materials, which guarantees a higher proportion of recyclable elements once its service life ends.

This can be seen in the seat upholstery. Sport seats are upholstered in textile, while Bucket seats can be specified with vegan fibre, containing 73% recycled material. Top-of-the-range seats can use other fibres with recyclable material and of higher quality.

On the centre console there is a cooled wireless charger for the smartphone. The audio system has been replaced in this new version by a unit developed by Sennheiser Mobility, with 12 speakers and 425 watts of power.

Engines of the new CUPRA León

As for the engines in this new CUPRA León, the 2.0 TSI engine with 190 and 245 CV disappears and is replaced by a 1.5 TSI engine. This offers several power outputs, with a top of the range that reaches 300 CV in the VZ version. The 2.0 TSI engine also returns with 204 CV, fitted with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

This engine is also available with the VZ version, which reaches 333 CV. The 1.5 TSI engine with mild hybrid technology is also available. Diesel and plug-in hybrid versions are added. The latter use a 1.5 TSI engine together with an electric motor, which, depending on the version, delivers 204 or 272 CV combined.

The battery is 19.7 kWh and can be charged with a fast charger of up to 50 kWh or with an AC charger of up to 11 kW. Both the CUPRA León and the CUPRA Formentor will be available from the third quarter of 2024.
