This is the new Cupra Formentor, available at the end of 2024

CUPRA has positioned itself as a brand to watch in a very short time, and it has consolidated itself since it separated from SEAT. So the models offered under this brand are set to represent a significant step forward in design and performance. The best-selling car from the brand is the CUPRA Formentor, and it will be the one that sets the course for the rest to follow.

During 2023, more than 120,000 units of the model were sold, which represents 23% more than the deliveries made in 2022. It should be remembered that it is the first fully CUPRA model, with no previous version in the parent brand, SEAT, and for that reason it is the mirror in which all the others see themselves reflected.

Both this model and the CUPRA Leon will be renewed for 2025 and will be available from the third quarter of 2024. Two models that will bring some novelties and that represent a new path for the brand, with changes while maintaining the spirit that saw it born.

The new CUPRA Formentor

The aesthetic changes to this powerful model begin at the front. The Formentor features a nose in the shape of a “shark’s nose“. The Matrix LED headlights are triangular in shape and enhance the dynamic image presented by the front end. The fog lights, for their part, are round and also take on the triangular shape of the main headlights.

The CUPRA logo is placed on the bonnet, giving it a different presence across the bonnet as a whole. At the rear there are also changes, although they are somewhat more restrained. That said, the design of the rear lights makes it a very attractive car and gives it a fresh look. The logo is positioned higher and is illuminated.

Improved interior

There are also interesting changes inside. One of the main ones has as its undisputed star the infotainment system. This offers a 12.9-inch multimedia screen, with a new interface. At the foot of the screen we find the volume and climate controls, easy to access and comfortable to use.

The Beats audio system that the Formentor had until now has been replaced by a new system designed together with Sennheiser Mobility, which offers 12 speakers and an output of 425 W.

The new engines

The engine range of the new CUPRA Formentor offers the same versions: petrol, diesel, petrol with mild hybridisation and plug-in hybrid. That said, in some of these engines there are small changes aimed at making the drive more engaging.

As for the petrol engine with mild hybridisation, this model uses the same 1.5 eTSI Mild Hybrid engine that was already available in the SEAT León. It delivers 150 CV and is paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox, which allows it to qualify for the ECO label.

For its part, the 2.0 TSI petrol engine, which until now offered 190 CV, now reaches 204 CV, and the same engine with 310 CV will from now on reach 333 CV.

Moving on to the plug-in hybrid version, we find a plug-in hybrid engine delivering 204 CV, while another version rated at 272 CV is also available. Both are equipped with a 1.5 TSI combustion engine, which replaces the 1.4 TSI unit used until now.

The associated electric motor offers two power outputs depending on the version, and the battery that powers it has a capacity of 19.7 kWh, which will allow an electric range of just over 100 kilometres. It offers a fast-charging capacity of up to 50 kW, while if charging is done with alternating current, this has gone from 3.6 kW to a maximum of 11 kW.
