The DC Avanti by DC Design: India's first sports car

DC Design has unveiled the DC Avanti at the New Delhi show, an attempt at a sports car for the Indian market.

It is clear that in a country that has been sleeping, but with enough potential industrially and in consumer terms to dominate car sales across the different segments that can be put on offer, once it wakes up it becomes an inexhaustible source of all kinds of vehicles. The New Delhi show has already given us enough news today, but we have one more, and this time on the side of the… sports cars. Or at least that is what it tries to be.

I’m not sure whether the DC Avanti from DC Design can be called a sports car in the full sense, but nothing is lost by trying. Don’t think it’s anything special mechanically, but the design is good overall (as you can see, it has an undeniable resemblance to Audi). In this case, though, the illusion fades a little when we learn that it is powered by a “mundane” Ford two-litre engine.

With turbo and everything, the American four-cylinder delivers 261 horsepower. It still falls a little short compared with other engines of similar orientation, but it is respectable. A future V6 version with 394 horsepower will follow to satisfy those who want more, if the smaller engine proves too modest. In both cases, the gearbox is a six-speed dual-clutch.

According to DC Design, the DC Avanti reaches 100 km/h in under seven seconds and makes considerable use of aluminium as its main material, making it a product dedicated to the local market with no comparison, except with those of international brands.
