The embryo of the Ford 2.0 Ecoboost engine is here
Ford has presented its family of crate engines, which includes this two-liter unit that will be the precursor to the next two-liter Ecoboost.
For a couple of days now there has been talk that Ford already had its two-liter crate engine ready, although, as you will see, the engineers at the blue oval still need a bit more development work.
The outlook is quite promising, considering that the engine coming out of this one we’re showing you now will integrate into the Ecoboost lineup (turbocharged) and that it will be fitted to the next Focus ST with at least 240/250 hp.
What you have here is a test of the 2-liter Ecoboost, although without the turbo. To make up a little for its absence and provide test material, they have raised the compression ratio to 12:1, with direct injection, variable valve timing and power ranging from 160 to 175 hp.
This engine will be available in spring 2012 and has a wonderful future ahead once the turbo is added. Are we looking at one of those engines that become the mandatory reference for others?
