The engine range of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class begins to take shape

The E-Class is one of the most important models for the brand with the star, both for its image and for the sales volume it accounts for within the total of the German manufacturer.
Now, with only a few months to go before the launch of the new generation, the range of engines it will feature is beginning to be revealed.
We have barely any clues about the design of the new generation of the E-Class, the executive saloon from the brand with the star. Almost certainly, and judging by the spy images of camouflaged prototypes circulating online, we will be looking at a “mini S-Class”, a tendency that is somewhat common within the brand.
What we do know is that this new generation will be the most technologically advanced in the history, with a technical load that is practically unbeatable for its rivals, who will have to get their act together -and I mean that literally- to compete against the new German model. The saloon will debut systems never before seen within the brand, such as a global three-stage preventive safety system, or the possibility of autonomous parking.
The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which will be presented as a world exclusive in January 2016 at the Detroit Motor Show, will feature a complete range of powertrains that, almost certainly, will continue to expand over the vehicle’s production life.
In petrol, there will initially be six power levels from three different engine types. The smallest engine will be a new 2.0 Turbo four-cylinder, offered in three power levels: 184, 211 and 245 CV, corresponding to the E200, E250 and E300 versions. The next step up will be a new 3.0 Turbo inline six-cylinder, delivering 333 CV in the E400 and 367 CV in the E450 AMG Sport. Finally, the E63 AMG will be powered by the same 4.0 V8 Biturbo found in the C63 AMG and AMG GT.
For diesel, there will be a new four-cylinder engine with 150, 194 and 231 CV, while the current 3.0 V6 diesel will improve its power delivery to reach approximately 260 CV. For a long time there has been speculation about the arrival of a new inline six-cylinder diesel engine, but it is still unknown whether it will finally reach production.
