The exhibition of Porsche honouring Walter Röhrl

“Genio sobre ruedas” (“Genius on wheels”) is the name of the exhibition being held at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, paying tribute to the legend of rallying, Walter Röhrl, on his 70th birthday. Today, Röhrl still works with Porsche on the tuning of models such as the 918 Spyder and the Carrera GT.
Walter Röhrl built his reputation as the most versatile driver of his era in rallying, where he achieved two world titles. The German is one of the few drivers in motorsport history who has won World Championship races in both rallying and other disciplines. Röhrl also triumphed in TransAm and IMSA events, in hill climbs such as Pikes Peak and in the German touring car championship.

The Porsche museum will display several of the vehicles Röhrl competed in: a 365 B 1600 Coupé, the Carrera GTS from the “Monnet” Rally, the 911 SC Coupé from San Remo, the 924 GTP from Le Mans in 1981, a 911 Carrera 2 Cup competition car and the legendary Carrera GT.
Walter Röhrl has been an ambassador and test driver for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer since 1993. His driving skill and his ability to explain vehicle behaviour in a simple and precise way remain very valuable assets for Porsche to this day. Walter Röhrl continues to take part in the tuning and development of Porsche’s sports car technology. The German has developed supercars such as the Porsche 959, the Porsche Carrera GT and the Porsche 918.
The German firm is also expected to soon name a corner of the development centre’s test track in Weissach after the driver.
