During the meeting of the FIA World Council, held a few days ago, several decisions were taken regarding other motorsport disciplines. A new championship has been approved by the World Council, the European Production Series.

This new series will be based on production cars, especially from the numerous one-make cups that exist in Europe. One of the details of the new category is the driver change during the race and a race duration of 50 minutes.

The ideas for the European Production Series would turn the new category into a kind of endurance touring car championship, with two drivers per car and two races over the weekend, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. It has been assured that the dates throughout the year will be six, at events where the World Touring Car Championship holds its races in Europe.

The only thing still pending for now is the support of a manufacturer, which is still under negotiation by the organisation led by Ian Planas.
