The first electric Mini, the Cooper SE, now has a price… and it's not that expensive

Mini has already opened reservations for its first electric car, the Mini Cooper SE, which has a starting price of €33,950.

Not long ago we told you all the main details of the new Mini Cooper SE, except the price. Now the English brand has just made official how much its first fully electric car will cost, which goes on sale from €33,950.

Let’s recall that the Mini Cooper SE will not be the first Mini that can be recharged from a plug and run without consuming fuel. Just to mention one, in the road test of the Mini Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 we already told you how advantageous the price of the plug-in hybrid version is compared with the diesel, for example.

You can already reserve your electric Mini from €1,200

We will now talk in more detail about the price of the electric Mini. But it is interesting for you to know that you can already reserve one on the website https://minielectric.es, leaving €1,200 as a deposit.

The reservation does not oblige you to buy, that is, you can cancel it whenever you want and you get your money back. And making a reservation comes with some interesting advantages. For example, the gift of a basic Wallbox or of a cable for charging at public stations. It also gives you access to a “bridge” vehicle until the car is delivered, with special financing conditions. In addition, customers with a reservation will be the first to see the Mini Cooper SE and try it before its market launch, from 2020.

And the price? You’re surely wondering how we can say it’s not expensive when we’re talking about almost €34,000. Well, here it’s a matter of analysing the possible alternatives… with or without an electric motor.

Alternatives to the Mini Cooper SE by price

The first, take note, is a Mini Cooper S with a petrol engine and 192 CV, which with an automatic gearbox costs €31,750. It is “only” €2,200 more to get the electric Mini, which in this case benefits from being exempt from paying the Registration Tax.

As for other electric cars with the exclusivity that the Mini offers, the first that comes to mind is the BMW i3. And here we are talking about a starting price of €39,900 for the 170 CV version, and from €43,650 for the 184 CV i3s, the same as the Mini.

There are more practical electric cars for daily use. In the road test of the Kia e-Niro we told you it is one of the ones we like most. Its price with discounts starts at just over €31,000 for the 136 CV version, and from €36,855 for the most powerful, with 204 CV.

The price of the Peugeot e-208 starts at €29,850, with a 136 CV motor. And one of the electric cars creating the most expectation, a real success judging by the reservations piled up even before the final price is known, is the new Honda e, which has every chance of being the car that makes more than one potential buyer doubt this “battery-powered” Mini.
